‘‘Tis the season
Ride em if you got em!
Dreaming of past rides and upcoming rides.
ITs biting at me now. That itch. That time of year where I can’t control my thoughts as they find their way to blogs with pictures of horizons and talk of rides into the sunset. Whatever you talk to motorcycle riders and ask them what motorcycle riding means to them, the response usually is freedom and getting away from it all and stress relief. What I find motorcycle riding means to me is possibilities. The possibilities to do whatever I want wherever I want to do it, as well as even though I might have a ride plan to start off with – the end of the trip might not be what I had planned.
I can feel the itch. I can feel myself starting to get ready and impatient for the riding season to start. I can feel possibilities on the horizon.
And I can’t wait
I have been decidedly quiet because
The weather sucks for motorcycle riding.
The road to Tofino and Ucluelet is one of my’ go-to’ rides. Technical with tightening corners, banked curves and spectacular scenery it is a rider I try and do at least once a year. On top of the wonderful road, the scenery isn’t too bad either.
It takes a little over 1.5 hours to get there by road. Or a little over 100km by highway. I try and do the trip prior to tourist season as tourists tends to slow traffic down. Locals do the speed limit if not a bit more. Unfortunately tourists get a bit intimidated by the steep cliff faces with the incoming traffic (and with good reason. It’s a highway to be respected). When coming across speed limit signs that say ’30kph’ – SLOW TO 30Kph.
All in all though, the rewards are breached with strumming rugged scenery and a laid back attitude of coastal people. More than worth the ride.
If I can give one piece of advice – plan to stay overnight to enjoy everything Tofino/Ucluelet has to offer
Last ride of the season
