I have to say that spending a great deal of my time on two wheels has given me a greater appreciation of the world around me. A wise (and famous) person – whom I entirely forget the name of – once said that when you drive a car, it is like watching a movie. When you ride a bike, you are actually IN the movie.
That being said. If you spend a great deal of time ” IN the movie” it begins to effect the way you view the rest of the world when “watching the movie”. The heave and pitch of the pavement. The angles and flaws of the asphalt become blaringly present. I find myself watching surfaces with a dialogue of “I’d have to fade to the right to avoid the worst of that frost heave” – “watch that corner. It isn’t banked the proper way”. It also makes me realize how fast or slow I can drive in certain conditions – whether a corner is engineered right. How the road feels even through the frame of the vehicle.
But more than anything it makes me aware of the ” movie outside the vehicle”.
I think I live in one of the most beautiful places on the face of this planet. It is at this time of year I sense the moods in amongst the beads of moisture.
I love it.
