The Road

A very wise woman once told me that “.. in order to know where you are going ~ you must know where you came from.”  At the time, I thought she was just talking about the literal road I was on at the time.  Now I know better.  Theresa McCann was a smart, funny, wonderful, wise woman.  She taught me many things. One of the most important was that, although I had to remember where I came from and honour my roots or my beginnings, that I should remember look to the road ahead.  It makes sense really.  The only people who make progress by walking backwards are actors in those terrible horror films that walk backwards into a room even though everyone in the audience of the theatre is yelling at them to not do it.

We must all remember this. To take where we have been and what we have been through, learn from it, then put it behind us and carry those lessons forward with us.
