Open Door Policy

Very seldom do people consider when they attempt to open the door to the past that it is not always good things that come through. Sometimes the past deserves to be the past because it was not a good place to be or that the influences we were under are hurtful, harmful and destructive. I am all for embracing the past or addressing things from yester-year that hold you back today. But there comes a point when you must say to yourself and to those nasty things that are coming through that door “I don’t want you here. There is nothing to gain from doing this.”. Or “however you picture this turning out, I will not allow it because it is not for me”

I sometimes wonder when people keep going back to their past with dire consequences what they were trying to do. There comes a time when the words that come from your mouth are those of “I acknowledge the past. I acknowledge the actions of myself and others at that time – but this is now and I must turn and face my future and leave you behind, choosing to only take with me that which is helpful, happiness, and good.”

At some point the door to the past must be closed in order for a door to a happier future to be opened.
