I have just finished watching (or rewatching) a movie called Remains of the Day, a movie about a bulter and his ghosts. But also, it is about a man who reminisces about the parst and what might have been. In a way, it is a lesson about how we cannot revisit the past.
In 2010 I went back to the city of my childhood and had a visit to the school I graduated from. At first it was a way to go back to see what had changed since leaving the city in 1982. I was not sure what I had expected and I had no idea how that correlated to the above mentioned movie, but still something about the movie niggled at the back of my brain. There is a saying that you can’t go back. After a while it came to my mind that, in the flavour of the movie, I began to wonder if people revisit their past in order to try and recapture feelings or things that continue to plague their future. Kind of like, “Unfinished Business”. It then put me in mind that sometimes somethings can be resolved in order for us to move on, but also some things were never meant to be finished in the first place.
