Living on the outskirts of a small rural community has some interesting aspects of life that cannot be escaped. One of these aspects has to deal with the fact that wildlife constantly comes calling. The night before last it was a visit on our back deck from a certain masked bandit and her “hoard in training” who came to teach her band of little ones where to find our winter supply of apples. This morning evidence of our other nightly visitor was apparent in the spring snow that chose to fall overnight. When we went out to warm up our vehicles for the morning, there in the snow was the meandering tracks of the years first bear. This really wasn’t much of a surprise as the bears on the coast never really hibernate, and with the recent mild weather, the signs of spring are appearing. Nothing signals the true sign of spring though then bear tracks in the front yard.
