Lately, the location that I’ve living at has had some exceptionally good weather for riding. In fact a stretch of a full week of hot, sunny weather has come to stay. Monday peaked at 30c and for this early in the season in Canada, I consider this a gift. One of the drawbacks of living in a coastal rainforest is the key word rainforest. When riding a motorcycle, rain is not your friend, but at the same time a scattered shower or two is a way of life ~ and no one has ever accused me of being made out of sugar aka easily melted in the rain. Aside from some of the drawbacks of life on two wheels and rain, one of the perks I have come to take for granted is the effects of the moisture level on greenery is the regional district.
One of, what I consider, the most spectacular places on earth is known as Cathedral Grove on Vancouver Island. When driving from the east coast of Vancouver Island on Hwy 4 on your way to Tofino or Ucluelet, you have to drive through this majestic stretch of trees. Not only is the smell of hot Fir and Cedar in the air, but the deep green of the forest is amazing and something that some people don’t realize – when you have a forest that thick with trees, the sun doesn’t penetrate down very well making riding through this stand a refreshing cool even on a 30+C degree day.
