My last foray across Canada taught me a valuable lesson about staying connected with those who were at home. I learned that I had been taking for granted the network coverage I had in my home province and in essence how useless a 3g-4g telephone is in a province that has no digital coverage. Sure, I have wonderful GPS apps and data tracker apps and trip journal with up to 8 digit coordinates – but if the network coverage you are on does not support this… well – you might as well just use your phone as a paperweight or a saddlebag weight or just chuck it into the nearest ditch in frustration. With this trip I am carrying my digital phone but also a pay-as-you go in case of emergencies.
With that in mind – I took the time ot access the data coverages in Canada according to provinces. An interesting exercise to say the least.

A lot of preparation for a two week trip – but if I’m lucky I’ll buy a winning lottery ticket and will be able to just keep going east – I wish!
