July 31, 2012 ~ Fernie to Drumheller

No matter how many times I travel the lower part of Alberta, I will never cease to be amazed by the landscape – the colours – the variety of scenes and just about everything the province has to offer.

Starting off from Fernie, we jumped on the bikes at 7:30am to have breakfast at (believe it or not) McDonalds.  After a “gut bomb” we headed out on the road.  Bidding goodbye to Fernie we quickly put on miles. One thing you can guarantee about being in the midst of the mountains is that the air will be crisp – which it was.  Being that we were riding through the mountains we knew we were in for a bit of a chilly start, so we all geared up just in case.  Traveling through the mountains is something I could do forever.  So many vistas – so little room in the camera.  We traveled to the border of BC and Alberta and took the time to take pictures of ourselves at the border before heading off again.

We seemed to make good time.

Making it through the lower part of the province, and making a stop at Pincher Creek for gas I am still constantly amazed at the beauty of this land.  From the hard mountains to the rolling plains that open up into coulee country.  Leaving Pincher, we headed up through Fort Macleaod making our way to Vulcan AB.  Yes, one of our group was riding a Vulcan therefore it made sense to get their picture at the famous replica of the USS enterprise in the town of Vulcan, with the Vulcan motorcycle in the foreground.

If anyone is a Trekkie, I would recommend you stop at the Vulcan tourism centre.  It is fascinating.

We stayed in Vulcan for lunch and to see some of the sights,  then on the road again to end up in Drumheller for the evening and to meet up with another one of our riding companions, Robin.  Checking in to the hotel we quickly got out of our gear as it was so sweltering hot in that part of the country.
