Today started off good. Robin and I left Medicine Hat at around 7:30am. We sayed at a Super 8 which gave us a good rate and helped out with breakfast as the room rate includes the continental breakfast.
Lunch saw us in Calgary to visit with Rena and Dave.
We pushed it through to Golden and that’s where the ‘fun’ began. An accident had taken place on Rogers Pass earlier in the day. Because of holiday traffic, even when they had cleaned up the accident, there was still a 2.5 hour delay. We were stuck in a traffic jam and ended up slow riding for the whole time. Although we were tempted to take off our vests and ride up the side of the road, we saw a couple of bikes that did attempt to do that and almost got driven over by a semi who must have taken exception to that. Just as we were getting close (approx 1/2 hr outside of revelstoke) the skies opened up and we ended up riding in the rain. If that wasn’t enough though, the lightening started hitting the mountains around us as we were riding and it started getting dark. NOT HAPPY NOT HAPPY. I have discovered that my situational turrets kicked in.
Because of the time delay we didn’t make it to Kamloops adn ended up spending the night in Revelstoke. Because of the traffic jam though, so had a whole bunch of other people. |Driving by all the hotels showed No Vacancy signs on all the hotels until we stopped at a 7-11 and asked for some advice. The teller wasn’t much help but one of the guys in the lineup told us about a hotel that night have a vacancy. We immediately headed over there and arrived to see a line up in the front foyer. It wasn’t sold out though because in order to get to it you had to do a bit of back tracking and turns to get into the cul-de-sac. When we got to the counter the owner told us that there was only 2 rooms left. A suite or a room with two single beds. We took the suite.
