A new year – new attitude

Human natures is an interesting thing. Just when you think you have it all figured out – BAM! It changes again.

I am speaking specifically about my own situation. I have been living away from home and working in another city. Since being here it has become very apparent as to who really even cares whether I’m here, there or anywhere by the contacts I’ve made or kept. The most interesting thing is the lack of contact that has been made. Someone who says that one day they will get together yet when I know I’m in the neighbourhood, they never answer the phone when they know I’m calling. Or when they make plans with ‘friends’ yet I am excluded – then make the comment ‘oh it’s been forever since I’ve seen you. I miss you. We should get together!” Please realize, I am not so egotistical to say that if someone is just not feeling up to having visitors or if they just cannot come to the door as they are busy – this is included.

Or in the instance of a person who regularly sends me emails bemoaning the fact that I never come visit or telephone or write – then when I do make the efforts of sending 4 – 5 paragraph emails filling them in on what has happened in my families lives and why I have not visited, they respond with “Thanks for the update.”

To say the least I have moved from the realm of ‘ticked right off’ to ‘I really don’t care.’ New Year’s Resolution: To spend time with those people who actually make the effort to stay in touch and to spend the effort in the areas where people reciprocate the efforts.

I have also come to terms with people who will forever be deligated to the ‘acquaintance’ category as opposed to the ‘friend’ category.

If you want to be a part of my life – you will have to make some efforts as well.

Here endeth the lesson.
