The road to Tofino and Ucluelet is one of my’ go-to’ rides. Technical with tightening corners, banked curves and spectacular scenery it is a rider I try and do at least once a year. On top of the wonderful road, the scenery isn’t too bad either.
It takes a little over 1.5 hours to get there by road. Or a little over 100km by highway. I try and do the trip prior to tourist season as tourists tends to slow traffic down. Locals do the speed limit if not a bit more. Unfortunately tourists get a bit intimidated by the steep cliff faces with the incoming traffic (and with good reason. It’s a highway to be respected). When coming across speed limit signs that say ’30kph’ – SLOW TO 30Kph.
All in all though, the rewards are breached with strumming rugged scenery and a laid back attitude of coastal people. More than worth the ride.
If I can give one piece of advice – plan to stay overnight to enjoy everything Tofino/Ucluelet has to offer
